Hey, Hi, Hello

Hello there! My name is Lauren and I am the maker and designer behind The Coastal Kind.  Since the East Coast is where my heart is and I lived in the West Coast for 10 years of my adult life, I knew I was the coastal kind of girl through and through. I come alive when I visit, with the smell of the salty air, and feeling the sun on my skin. I have the most beautiful memories of the East Coast and my heart will always be there, but the West Coast is where I found adventure.

The Coastal Kind will always be found in both the fond memory and the new adventure. It is a place that no matter where my journey takes me, I will find inspiration.

My current adventure is smack dab in the middle of the map - Kansas City. I love the thriving small business culture, the fabulous women entrepreneurs, and amazing art culture here. While studying Fashion Design at the International Academy of Design Technology in California, I fell in love with textiles and began extensive research in sustainability. I decided to pursue fiber arts at the Kansas City Art Institute and came to KC to continue my research on ethical design with a hands-on approach. I got to weave fabric and experiment with textile art. It was fabulous.

I love all things handmade and I will forever be a maker, but I changed gears three years ago. I wanted to see a more sustainable world of design but I realized that I needed to better understand business and learn how I could make a scalable difference. This led me to complete my degree at The UMKC Bloch School of Management, focusing on Entrepreneurship and Graphic Design.

Traveling and experiencing different cultures will always fascinate me and influence my creative point of view. My ability to create effective graphic art for big business and small alike comes from my perspective as both a designer and entrepreneur.

Everything that I create comes directly from the inspiration I find all around me, thoughtful research, and solving problems in a beautiful way.
